Synopsis
“Queen of Chocolate” Beatrice Wodehouse, known for her decadent desserts, is ready to go head to head with her social media nemesis, clean lean baking machine Charlie Simmonds, in the Great Christmas Cook Off TV show. Beatrice is fed up of Charlie’s sanctimonious attitude and is ready to show him that food is there to be enjoyed. Surely she’ll blow his keto, low-sugar, low-carb mince pies out of the water with her chocolatey creations?
Except filming for the Cook Off turns out to be anything but sugar, spice, and all things nice when the contestants realise there’s a festive saboteur in their midst – leading to melted ice cream, trifle mishaps, and private stories leaked to the press. As the countdown to the final commences, suspicions run high and sparks are bound to fly – and not just from the flaming Christmas puddings!
My Review
I am such a huge fan of Helen Buckley, having already read and loved Strictly on Ice and Strictly Christmas Spirit, I knew I was going to love The Great Christmas Cook Off just as much. Beatrice and Charlie are both very talented cooks. Beatrice and Charlie are also rivals and their social media feuds are well-known within the industry. So, when both Beatrice and Charlie are thrown together in a Christmas baking competition, you guessed it – the sparks start to fly!
As the competition gets into full swing, the atmosphere between the two of them is frosty, to say the least. However, we do start to see an attraction simmering beneath the surface. Beatrice and Charlie are both dealing with a lot of past issues, which is why they are both so guarded and so protective of their own feelings. I don’t want to give anything away (you will just have to read the book for yourself) but could the two arch-rivals really become anything more? And who will be crowned as the winner of the Great Christmas Cook Off?
The Great Christmas Cook Off is such a brilliantly written story, with incredible characters. I love both Beatrice and Charlie as characters and how they are both dealing with past life issues which makes them so much more guarded about their feelings and emotions. I loved this story – it is a must-read from me.
