So, its started already . . . the crazy commercialised promotion of Valentine’s Day. Where every TV commercial, social media post, email in your inbox makes you feel like something is wrong with you if you happen to be single, and not celebrating Valentine’s Day as part of a couple.

The world of social media would have you believe that on Valentine’s Day, I will be sitting in my PJ’s, crying into a bottle of wine and wishing I could be with the man of my dreams. Nothing could be further from the truth. Except maybe the part about being in my PJ’s – we are in lockdown after all! Read my tips and tricks below on how you can have an amazing Valentine’s Day if you are single.
One – No-one to buy for = treat yourself
Being single on Valentine’s Day means that you don’t have to worry about finding and buying that perfect gift for your partner. So, it couldn’t be a better time to treat yourself to a little something. If you have been lusting after a gorgeous handbag, pair of shoes or some new beauty products, gift yourself something special this Valentine’s Day.
Two – Zoom, wine and your best girl friends
Valentine’s Day this year is going to be very different, whether you are single or in a relationship. The UK wide lockdown means that there will be no romantic Valentine’s dinners in expensive restaurants and no celebrating with champagne and cocktails. So, set up a Zoom call with your best girl pals, grab a bottle of wine and spend Valentine’s evening chatting, laughing and drinking (virtually) with the people in your life that really matter.
Three – Explore Online Dating
If you are single, but really keen to explore the idea of dating again, why not give online dating a try. And what better time to pop your online dating cherry than Valentine’s Day! All of the other single guys and girls who are looking for love will be signing up for dating sites, such as the Kent dating site, ready and waiting. So, if you are ready to date in Kent, now couldn’t be a better time – you never know, you might meet your Mr or Miss Right!
Four – Have a pamper night
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to look after yourself and have a pamper night. Run yourself a bath with some luxurious bath products – I personally love the Elemis Skin Nourishing Milk Bath. Use a facemask and your full skincare routine. Don’t forget to repaint your finger and toe nails – yes, I know we are not going anywhere, but it will really help to make you feel better.
Five – Take some time to get to know yourself
One thing that I have found so invaluable over the last year or so is journaling. When I split up with my ex-partner, I felt very lost and very lonely. Journaling really helped me to work out all the emotions that were going on in my head and how to process everything. I have continued to journal on a daily basis, which has helped me so much in working out what I really want in my life, but also helped me to understand what I want in a new partner and relationship, as well as what I know I won’t put up with anymore. Writing in a journal can really help you to get to know yourself again.
Whatever your plans are this Valentine’s Day, always remember that being single is not a bad thing, and you should never be made to feel that something is wrong because you are not in a relationship.
