Ways to stay healthy this Winter

Staying healthy in winter can be really hard, if like me, you are really not a fan of this time of year. I don’t like the dark and cold days. I am so much more of a Spring and Summer girl! Recently, I seem to have fallen into a really bad habit of not taking care of myself and my health very well at this time of year. So in today’s post, I’m talking about some things which I have been adding in to my routine in order to help both my mind and body during this wintertime.

Get some Sleep

Getting a good nights sleep is one of the most important and best ways to stay healthy. We all know what it’s like to have a bad nights sleep and feel awful the following day. I can really struggle with sleep as I suffer with Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) which affects me quite badly at night. I am now on medication for my RLS which has massively helped me, and now I sleep really well again. Most of us need around 8 hours of good quality sleep a night to be able to function properly. Quality sleep can help strengthen your heart and help improve your immune function, as well as your mental well-being.


Exercise really is so key to helping improve both your mental and physical health. This time of year it’s really hard to find the motivation to go to the gym or to a class, but it really can help to give you a boost. If the thought of the gym really does fill you with fear, then try and get out for a walk every day. Just a short 10 minute walk once a day will help no end – wrap up warm and enjoy being outside. It really will help both your mental health and help you feel more healthy.

Boost your Vitamin Intake

If you are feeling run-down and lethargic at this time of year, it could be a good idea to introduce some vitamins into your daily routine. I currently take a good Multivitamin to give me that boost of essential vitamins needed. I also have introduced Turmeric Capsules* into my daily routine. Turmeric is known to work on joint, brain and heart health, and can help with any joint problems in the colder months. I am also using a muscle and joint rub* – again to help with those general aches and pains we all get in the winter months.

Stay Hydrated

The cold winter weather can play havoc on our bodies – leaving our skin and body dry and dehydrated, and looking very dull and lifeless. It is really important to keep as hydrated as possible by drinking water and eating foods that are very hydrating – such as watermelon and strawberries. It is also really important to keep your skin hydrated with a rich body oil, and if you suffer from the dreaded cracked, dry lips in the colder months, try using a Liquorice Lip Balm*, which can help prevent dry, flaky and chapped lips.

Following these simple tips should help keep both your body and mind boosted, and you should feel full of life all the way through the winter months.
