The Ox is situated in the centre of Cheltenham and is known for offering the best steaks and cocktails around. I was recently very kindly invited to The Ox for their Autumn menu launch.
The evening started with cocktails. The Ox have launched a new cocktail menu alongside the food menu and all cocktails are Autumn inspired. I tried the Autumn Leaves cocktail, which was delicious and full of autumnal warming flavours.
We were seated in the beautiful private dining area, which is spectacularly decorated and would make the perfect setting for a Christmas party or gathering.
We were very kindly presented with each dish from the new Autumn menu, and wow, there really was some incredible dishes. The starters were all delicious, with my favourites being the Josper roasted mushrooms on sourdough toast and deep fried pig’s head & black pudding served with poached egg. I was a little nervous (and curious) to see what pig’s head would be like, but oh my goodness it was heavenly.
We then moved onto the mains which included an array of steaks – T-Bone, Fillet and Sirloin. All were cooked to perfection and served with side orders of fries, chunky chips, salad and my personal favourite – macaroni cheese.
For the non-meat eaters, please don’t worry, the new menu has some gorgeous vegetarian and fish dishes including Pan fried cod with smoked pancetta and mash and a beautiful sweet chilli onion squash, kale and quinoa salad, which was delicious.
There were a lot of excited noises coming from the group when desert was bought out! Carrot and walnut cake served with creme fraiche ice-cream, Coconut cake bar with coconut ice cream, and a selection of homemade sorbets and ice-creams was definitely the best way to finish off an incredible meal.
The evening was so lovely and the service was incredible – all the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and very knowledgable about all of the dishes on the new menu. Delicious food and winter warming cocktails – what more can you want for a good night out?
The Ox have some fantastic offers on food as well – with a burger and beer deal for just £15.00 every Wednesday and a pre-theatre dinner package of 60z rump, fries, peppercorn sauce and a glass of wine for just £15.00. The Early Bird offer is available Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm-7pm.
