An Afternoon of Gin at Memsahib Gin and Tea Cheltenham

Last Sunday, I found myself drinking gin at lunchtime, which is not the usual drink of choice for me at lunch (but I could definitely get on board with it!), as I was very kindly invited to attend a Gin and Tea Bloggers masterclass at the Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar in Cheltenham.

The Memsahib Gin and Tea bar has such a comforting and welcoming atmosphere. As soon as you walk through the door, you almost feel like you are part of the family and not a customer, as you are welcomed with a delicious warming drink and amuse bouche.

The afternoon began with some of the history around the Memsahib Gin and Tea bar from the lovely owners Litu and Rasel, who explained that they have a selection of over 55 gins and an array of teas, which in turn creates a spectacular menu of unique flavour combinations. We then moved on to creating our very first drink – an Indian Masala Gin infusion.

Masala Chai Gin Infusion

London Dry Gin combined with Indian Masala Chai and served with lemonade, rather than tonic water, made for a beautifully spiced and refreshing drink. The flavours were incredible – so fresh, yet spicy and warming. The presentation and theatre of this drink was spectacular.

We then moved onto making a rum infusion. The white rum was infused and smoked to produce its unique flavour. This was served with aromatic tonic and fruit shashlik – wow, this one was smoky, spicy and so delicious!

We were provided with a delicious lunch of chicken samosa, duck, with masala spiced chips and cheesecake to finish. The food was all so lovely.

Lunch at Gin and Tea Masterclass

After lunch, we tried out another 2 drinks – a Gin and Oolong tea Martini which was so fresh, but I think my favourite had to be the Rum, Chocolate and Coffee cocktail, which was warming and punchy and was the perfect way to finish a wonderful afternoon.

Memsahib Gin and Tea are looking to introduce these masterclasses next year, so keep an eye on their website for further details, and if you are looking for somewhere with incredible food and unique and individual drinks, then I can’t recommend the Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar highly enough.

Disclosure – I was invited to the Gin and Tea Masterclass along with other bloggers to experience their food and drink. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
