Why Social Media is such a huge part of my life

Tomorrow is Social Media Day – a few years ago, we would all think it was really strange having a day celebrating all that is Social Media, but yet in 2018, seemingly our whole world revolves around Social Media, not just for our jobs and careers, but in our own personal lives as well.

A few years ago, I never really used Social Media much – I had a Facebook account, but only really used it to see what friends were up to and what was going on in their lives, When I opened my Twitter account, I just didn’t know what to Tweet – I mean, what do I have to say that anyone would be interested in? Yet now, I seem to be using Social Media more and more, but also have that compelling pull to checking my social media every few minutes.

When I decided to set up my Blog, it took me a really long time to understand how I could use Social Media to help promote my Blog posts – mind you, when I first started Blogging, I didn’t tell anyone about my Blog at all, so probably my first 8-10 posts no-one ever knew about them and no-one ever read them! Now, I understand a lot more about how Social Media can be used for my Blog, although I still struggle with the whole “self-promotion” thing, as I am not one for blowing my own trumpet, and I don’t for a second believe that there is anyone out there who is interested in what I write and what I have to say.

I use Social Media every single day – my job involves using Social Media and I am always checking my own Social Media platforms. I do get worried that sometimes I feel so lost if I haven’t checked Twitter or Instagram for a few hours – I mean, have I really missed out on anything important if I don’t check my Twitter feed for several hours? My partner gets a little bit frustrated with me that I seem to be on my Social Media all the time, but I have to remind him that I am doing it either for work purposes or to help promote my Blog, and I’m not just mindlessly scrolling through Twitter and Instagram – although sometimes I am doing just that!

Does anyone else ever get that slight panicky feel when they don’t check their Social Media for a while? It seems like, and feels like that we get all our important information and news these days from Social Media, and I fully believe that Social Media is here to stay, and I for one love it!

I have to admit, blogging has given me a new found love for social media. It does give it a very different meaning and makes it seem more worthwhile!

It can be very daunting putting yourself out there but it comes hand in hand with having a blog. I’m finding that the first thing I do when I wake up is to check my social media platforms, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not lol. x
